Evan Burl and the Falling by Justin Blaney

I received a copy from the author for review.

Evan Burl lives in a world of darkness and fear. He and his fellow orphans work until exhaustion for a heartless benefactor. While trying to survive and waking up to the world outside the orphanage, Even starts to realize not everything is what it seems.
The Good: An idea unlike I have read thus far, with elements of magic, suspense, and family ties that bind. I enjoyed the characters, and the all-around feel of building enchantment.

The Bad: I did not appreciate how often the author jumps in time sequence. Also, there are too many unanswered questions upon conclusion of this first installment. One needs a bit more resolution to continue reading the series.

Overall I think this is a good read. There are typically growing pains with any new series, and I think there are wonderful opportunities for this story. Happy reading!
